I was a Girl Guide leader for many years. (For those in the U.S., it's the rough equivalent of Girl Scouts.) I worked with Guides (9-12 year olds) or Pathfinders (12-15 year olds). Four years ago, I was burned out, so I quit.
A couple of weeks ago, I ran into one of the leaders I used to work with. She is now doing Sparks (5 & 6 year olds) and asked if I'd join her. Today I agreed to become a Sparks leader. I followed that up by saying that I would miss the first meeting.
Hopefully it will work out well. One of the advantages of working with the younger girls is that it is much less of a committment - they do not do many camps, and the meetings are just an hour.

I was also a Girl Guide - got my All Round Cord and everything! It really made such a difference in my life, though I didn't know it @ the time. I would love to get involved, but I don't really like kids, so I've been trying to see what opportunities they have @ their head office [which is literally three doors down from my current office].
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Colette, I know how much you enjoyed being a GG leader before you started taking on all the extras around it. Kids are fun, especially that age group, I know that you will really enjoy yourself.

Congrats. With the meetings being less than an hour and the time constraint being less, I am sure this will work out better for you! I was a Girl Scout up until age 12!
