I've been asked to be a reference for people before. Usually it's been for people I know through volunteer work. Often I don't get called, but a couple of times I have been.
However, this week I was asked to provide a reference letter for a former co-worker who is applying to do her master's.
Today I finally got it completed and I provided a reference letter for a colleague and submitted it online. The process was pretty easy, although in the e-mail I got about how to submit the reference, it would have been useful it they mentioned that you had to have a letter typed up in Word format before hand.
